Types of Coral for Jewelry & Accessory Making

1. Precious coral - natural color coral which has been used for jewelry from past old times.
Usually for precious coral, darker the color, more expensive.
Price ranks as follows:
Japanese Aka (red coral):
Harvested at Kochi (Tosa), Wakayama, Ogasawara, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Okinawa.
Exist mainly around West Pacific Ocean.
Sea-depth 100-150 meters.
Mediterranean red coral:
Harvested at Mediterranean Sea: Sardinia, Corsica, Greece, North Africa.
Sea-depth 50-100 meters
Pink Momo coral (Angel skin coral):
Harvested at Okinawa, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Ogasawara, Kochi.
Exist mainly around West Pacific Ocean.
Sea-depth 200-300 meters.
Momo coral (orange color coral with white core):
Harvested at Okinawa, Kagoshima, Nagasaki, Ogasawara, Kochi.
Exist mainly around West Pacific Ocean.
Sea-depth 200-300 meters.
Miss coral (South China Sea coral with angel skin color):
Exist around South China Sea.
Deep sea coral (mix of pink, orange and white):
Harvested in huge amount by Japanese ships around 40-50 years ago at Hawaii and Midway Islands.
Exist around Central Pacific Ocean.
Sea-depth 800-1500 meters.
(Same for Garnet coral and Midway coral)

2. Sponge coral - Called Apple coral or African coral.
Scientific Name - Melithaea Ocracea
Harvested around South China Sea.
Exist around South China Sea, Philippine Sea, and oceans around Australia.
Sea-depth 50-80 meters.
3. Bamboo coral - Also called Sea bamboo.
